Audience Feedback

Below are some scans of questionnaires filled out during a screening of our video.

The audience feedback was very useful to us. All in all it seems that our video was very well received. A number of people commented on the fluidity of the video with respect to the tone and lyrics of the music, which was very encouraging feedback as, in my opinion, a successful music video needs to run smoothly. If the music jars with the video, it is not something that will be readily consumed by the public, in which case it will fail to create interest in the product for sale. There was also positive feedback on the emptiness the character embodies in the video, which was precisely our intent. That people picked up on this is brilliant and only inspires confidence in the success of our video. We did receive criticism from some people for our use of special effects. These people felt that the effects needed to be more noticeable, but we thought this was actually contradictory to the point of a special effect, which we feel should be unnoticeable to an audience if it is to be successful.
A number of our audience members felt that the beginning of our music video was confusing and they were unable to immediately grasp the story-line. Happily, these people and the other audience members said that they were able to understand the plot of the video after a little while and from then on they found it an interesting and engaging story.
It is also worth noting that the majority of people, when asked which scene they preferred and which they disliked, mainly said that the opening scene was one of their favourite scenes, due to the fluid camera work and the use of the iPod. Even more interesting was that no one actually had a scene that they actively disliked.
We finished grilling the audience with a final, "Did our video come across as professional?" People responded positively to this, saying that they did think it was to a high quality and very well made.
We were very, very happy with our audience feedback.

Magazine Advertisment

In general we leafed through music magazines, for example Q, Kerrang, Mojo etc., and took bits and pieces from a multitude of adverts. The first example was the template used to create the second, as a practice picture. My preference is example 2, but we have no consensus on which we prefer.

Website

We took inspiration from the same bands that inspired our album cover. We are still opting for a simplistic design, as is used on the Radiohead website. I'll be putting hyperlinks to the other websites on here so you can see for yourself.

Album Cover and Inspiration

Now we're beginning work on our album cover - back and front. The band has stated that they have been inspired by bands such as Radiohead, Bon Iver and The Smashing Pumpkins. These bands have generally had simplisticly styled albums and so we have decided that we would try to make our own albums simple. We used albums from the aforementioned bands for inspiration, as well as Blur and The Verve. We're going to post up some of the albums that we liked and post up our own. To create the covers we used Photoshop, which is actually really great to make a good-looking simple picture.

These are some of the albums:

These are the covers we have created:

CHOOSING LOCATION...

After Charlotte taking photos of various locations, we have finally decided on where the main scene will be shot. We have discussed the possible locations with Thom and he has agreed that this is the best possible location. The images below are the ones taken from the location, and we have included a brief summary of what will be happening at each part of the location.

*This shot is taken from the POV of Richard (The driver that knocks down Rachael) This is the road that he will drive down, and Rachael will be walking across when she is knocked down.

*This will be the spot where Rachael gets fed up with people ignoring her, and slumps herself against the electric box. It is from this point that she see's Marks car. (The car that will go through her after she tries to take her life)

*This is the road that Richard and Mark will both drive along, by turning left at this corner.

*This is a possible road sign that will become blurred as Rachael tries to read it, to figure out where she is.
This could be the shot where Rachael see's Paul coming. (The man who seemingly ignores her)

*These are more possible signs we could use for the blurry scene.

This is a road sign from further on down the street. As you can see, it is 30mph. We will include this in our filming, while doing a shot/reverse shot of Richards speedometer at 60mph. This should give the impression that he is going over the speed limit when he knocks Rachael down, which should make her death more believable.

Hopefully these shots have given you some insight to the layout of the video.
